Computing

Our vision for Computing at St Mary Immaculate

At St Mary Immaculate Catholic Primary School, our computing curriculum aims to equip young learners with foundational digital skills while fostering a safe and responsible online presence, underpinned by our school vision: Live wisely, Think Deeply, Love Generously.

Using Purple Mash Computing Units, we strive to empower students to navigate the digital world with confidence, creativity, and critical thinking. Through engaging lessons and interactive activities, we aim to instil in our students a deep understanding of computational thinking, coding basics, communication and digital literacy. Furthermore, our commitment to online safety ensures that students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the internet securely and responsibly, understanding concepts such as privacy, cyberbullying, and digital footprint. We strive to cultivate a sense of digital citizenship rooted in respect, empathy, integrity, and social responsibility. We recognise the importance of providing a safe and supportive learning environment where students can explore, experiment, and make mistakes within a framework of guidance and encouragement.

Our ultimate goal is to nurture compassionate and competent digital citizens who are ready to thrive in an increasingly digital society while prioritising their well-being and safety in the online world.

The Purple Mash Computing Scheme of Work is a comprehensive set of resources aligned to the National Curriculum for Computing, Technology and Digital Competence. It exposes children to a wide variety of digital tools, technological skills, and innovations. For EYFS, pupils can use Mini Mash in conjunction with Purple Mash to work towards ‘Understanding the World’ and meeting their Early Learning Goals. It also covers the foundational knowledge that will support them in their further Computing learning in Key stage 1.
