About Our Curriculum

We have designed a creative and engaging curriculum at St Mary Immaculate so that each term the children fully immerse themselves in a well planned, sequential topic within each curriculum subject. Every area of the curriculum is explored thoroughly and all the programmes of study for the National Curriculum 2014 are covered in sufficient depth.

From September 2023, our curriculum is underpinned by the 3 pillars for learning at St Mary Immaculate:

Live wisely, think deeply, love generously.

These pillars are inspired by Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si, written and shared with the world in 2015. He asks us to look after each other and the earth by choosing to live wisely, sustainably and responsibly, think deeply about the issues the world faces and what God tells us to do, and to love all others by showing respect, tolerance and love to our brothers and sisters, near and far.

We ensure that our curriculum is fully inclusive so that learning is accessible for ALL of our children.

Curriculum information is shared with parents regularly so that they can see the exciting things that the children will be learning. This document below details how we approach the curriculum, our principles for teaching it and our termly topics in each subject area. We have a comprehensive programme of trips, guest speakers, celebrations, themed events, experiences and our annual whole school outing in the Spring term.

Each curriculum pillar is woven into the curriculum and the pillars documents below demonstrate how this is achieved. At the end of each topic the children reflect on what they have learned that will help them to live wisely, think deeply and love generously, building deeply upon their understanding and impacting their daily lives and the choices they make.

At St Mary Immaculate we encourage our pupils to be independent and resilient learners. By embracing a growth mindset and developing a whole school language for learning, pupils and staff are more able to meet and exceed expectations. There is no ceiling on what we can learn and where our learning can take us.

Through all this, we ensure that our children are ready for the next stage of their education and life in Modern Britain.

If you would like any more information on the curriculum, please contact either your child's class teacher or Mrs Wallace.
